What is Telemarketing Registration?
Telemarketing Registration is the process through which businesses, service providers, and marketing agencies register as authorised entities to send promotional calls, SMS campaigns, and commercial communications. It is governed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) under the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018 (TCCCPR), with which every organisation engaged in commercial communication must comply. In practice, this means registering as a Principal Entity on the DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platform operated by the telecom operators, where you enrol your sender headers and message content templates for approval.
The DLT framework is a blockchain-based system designed to curb unsolicited commercial communication and protect consumers. Messages and calls are permitted only through approved headers and pre-registered content templates, with a clear distinction maintained between transactional messages (such as OTPs and service alerts) and promotional messages (marketing offers), each governed by its own consent and preference rules. Without valid registration, telecom operators block your communications — making DLT registration mandatory for any business running lawful, large-scale outreach in India.

Eligibility & Requirements
How to Complete Your Telemarketing (DLT) Registration
Registration is completed on the DLT platform of any one telecom operator (Jio, Airtel, Vi, BSNL, or MTNL). Because the operators share a common ledger, a single registration is recognised across all networks.
1Step 1: Choose a DLT Operator Portal
Register on any one telecom operator's DLT platform — inter-operator recognition across networks is automatic.
2Step 2: Register as a Principal Entity
Create your account and enrol as a Principal Entity by submitting your business documents and KYC.
3Step 3: Register Sender Headers
Enrol your sender header IDs, keeping separate headers for transactional and promotional communications.
4Step 4: Submit Content Templates
Submit each SMS, call, and message template for approval. Templates must be specific, with variable fields kept minimal and clearly defined.
5Step 5: Set Up the Consent Framework
Implement a consent (opt-in) mechanism for promotional messages and scrub recipient lists against the DND / NDNC registry.
6Step 6: Go Live
Once your headers and templates are approved, begin your fully compliant communication campaigns.
DLT registration is typically completed in 7–15 working days. Content-template approvals are ongoing as you add new campaigns.
